The National Executive Committee of the National Unity Platform convened today to address the response of Hon. Mathias Mpuuga regarding allegations of corruption and abuse of office. These accusations stemmed from the irregular allocation of 1.7 billion shillings as “Service Awards” by Mpuuga and other NRM Parliamentary Commissioners during a meeting chaired by Ms. Anita Among.

Hon. Mpuuga, in response to the NEC’s request for justification to avoid recall from the Parliamentary Commission, failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for his involvement in these actions. He notably neglected to address the specific allegations leveled against him. Consequently, the NEC has decided to recall him from the Parliamentary Commission due to corruption, dishonesty, and abuse of office. Notification of this decision will be forwarded to Parliament.

Corruption Unsatisfactory
Abuse of Office Unaddressed
Dishonesty Not Explained

Moreover, NEC has chosen to nominate Hon. Zaake Francis Butebi as a replacement Parliamentary Commissioner. This decision was influenced by his previous removal from the role in March 2022, which was perceived as illegitimate and possibly connected to the dubious activities of the Parliamentary Commission that have now been exposed.

He also acknowledged the endorsement from the party president, H.E. Bobi Wine. Zaake pledged to serve with dedication and integrity, ensuring that he upholds the core values of the National Unity Platform and represents the interests of the people effectively. He concluded by urging unity and collective effort in making a positive difference for the nation.
