Nwoya District, Uganda – Nwoya District Woman MP, Hon. Judith Peace Achan, is facing serious allegations following an altercation with her ex-husband’s wife on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Hon. Achan, who represents Nwoya District, has been accused of criminal trespass, domestic and gender-based violence, and assaulting three individuals during a confrontation in the district.
According to a police report seen by our reporter, the case has been filed at Koch Goma Police Station under reference number Ref: 06/5/01/2025.
The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Patrick Okello, the LC1 Chairperson of Alelele Cell where the altercation took place, confirmed that MP Achan allegedly attacked the wife of her ex-husband, Mr. Amos, as well as two other individuals who were at his home at the time. Eyewitnesses reported that Mr. Amos was not at home during the incident.
However, Hon. Achan has denied the allegations in a press interview this morning. She claimed that she was simply returning car keys to Mr. Amos and that the situation escalated when she was confronted by the new wife of her ex-husband.
“I did not go to her. I went to the grandmother of my children to hand over the car keys. When the woman, now married, started attacking us with soldiers, that’s when Amos’ wife arrived with her children and brothers – seven people – beating us. The scuffle continued, and we were fighting over the phone,” Hon. Achan explained.
She further elaborated on the exchange of words that occurred: “They asked me why I was there, calling me a prostitute and saying they were tired of me. I then asked them, ‘You came here and found us peacefully – who sent you?'”
Local resident Mr. Opiyo Yassin criticized Hon. Achan’s actions, calling the incident “embarrassing” and suggesting that if she intended to return the vehicle in good faith, she should have taken it to Nwoya or reported it to the police station in Anaka. “What Hon. Acan did today is a total embarrassment to the people of Koch,” Mr. Opiyo said.
Nwoya police are taking the matter seriously and have launched an investigation. Both parties involved have recorded statements to determine the cause of the altercation.
This incident is not the first time that Hon. Achan has faced legal troubles. In 2022, her ex-husband filed a case against her, accusing her of stealing 1.2 billion shillings and one ambulance vehicle. That case is still pending in the High Court in Kampala.
As investigations continue, the people of Nwoya await further developments in this high-profile case.
