In a heartfelt Christmas address to his clan, the Awitong of Ober Clan, Geoffrey Etwop , has called for strengthened unity, responsible conduct, and spiritual gratitude as the community prepares for the festive season.
Delivering his annual message, the respected clan head praised his people for their dedication throughout the year in farming, trade, education, and livestock rearing, the enduring foundations of the clan’s livelihood and future.
A core theme of his address was the importance of family unity and security. The Awitong specifically advised parents to keep their children within the care of the immediate family during the holidays. “Let us keep our children close and safe, rather than having them move about to various relatives and centres,” he stated, emphasizing parental responsibility.
He called for peace to start within every household and extend throughout the clan’s villages. “Let us be the ones who calm tensions, not start them,” he added.
The clan leader reminded all members of their duty to uphold both national law and the respected traditions of the clan. He firmly denounced actions such as theft, violence, and poison, which bring shame and discord.
“As we approach the celebration of Christ’s birth, let our actions reflect His teachings,” Awitong Etwop said. “Let us show kindness to one another, share what we have with those in need, and resolve our differences with respect.”
Highlighting communal well-being, he encouraged everyone to guard their health and make wise choices to prevent the spread of diseases. He also championed a spirit of diligence, urging the clan to continue its legacy of hard work and to reject idleness.
The message culminated in a call for spiritual reflection. “Let us not forget the reason for this season. Let us thank God for the journey this year and pray for His continued blessings, for good health, and for prosperity in the coming year,” the Awitong stated.
