Alhajj Nsereko Abdul, a celebrated figure in Ugandan media and politics, passed away on [Date] after a long battle with diabetes. He was 78 years old.
Nsereko’s career spanned decades, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s broadcasting landscape. In the 1970s, his voice boomed across airwaves as a popular presenter at Radio Uganda. He later transitioned to Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC), eventually rising to the prestigious position of Director of Political Programs.
Beyond broadcasting, Nsereko also ventured into public service, serving as a Resident District Commissioner. His dedication and expertise earned him respect and admiration across political spheres.
News of Nsereko’s passing sent shockwaves through Uganda, eliciting an outpouring of condolences from prominent figures. Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, offered her heartfelt sympathies to the family, acknowledging Nsereko’s contributions to the nation.
“I offer my deepest condolences, along with those from the Parliament of Uganda, on the passing of your father, Alhajj Nsereko Abdul. May the Almighty Allah grant you and your family strength during this difficult time,” Among wrote on her social media page.
Deputy Speaker, Thomas Tayebwa, also expressed his sadness, highlighting Nsereko’s role as a mentor and influential figure.
“I join the country in mourning Alhajj Nsereko Abdul, who passed away this morning. During our university days, Alhajj mentored most of us in politics. He has served the country in several capacities, and I’m glad his son, Alhajj Nsereko Mohamed, has kept the family legacy shining. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Tayebwa stated.
Nsereko’s legacy extends beyond his professional achievements. He was also the father of renowned politician Muhammad Nsereko, the current Member of Parliament for Kampala Central.
Details of the burial arrangements have been announced. Prayers are scheduled for Thursday morning at Kibuli Mosque, followed by the transportation of the body to Bulika, Nama Sub County in Mukono district for burial at 2:00 PM.
