Prof. Patrick Rubaihayo, who was 82 years old, has passed away. He was a former minister, Member of Parliament, and lecturer at Makerere University. Hebert Byoreko, a cousin to Prof. Rubaihayo and chairman of the finance committee and governor of the Milton Obote Foundation, shared the news.
Prof. Rubaihayo died at a hospital in Mbarara district on May 15, 2024. Byoreko explained that he had been struggling with diabetes and high blood pressure for some time.
Prof. Rubaihayo held significant positions throughout his life. He was the chairman of the board of trustees at the Milton Obote Foundation and a lifetime congressman of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).
To honor his memory, a funeral service will be held at the Makerere University Chapel on Friday, May 17, 2024. There will also be a vigil at his home starting on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Byoreko mentioned that the family is currently meeting to finalize the burial arrangements. Additionally, a post-mortem report will be provided to give more details about his passing.
Prof. Rubaihayo’s death is a great loss to many, and the planned ceremonies will give friends, family, and colleagues an opportunity to remember and celebrate his life and contributions.
