A sense of shock and sadness enveloped Luuka District on Thursday as Gladys Aliyinza, a promising politician and wife of Faruk Kirunda, the deputy press secretary to President Museveni, tragically lost her life in a road accident. The incident occurred at Nawansega cell in Nawansega ward, Bukoova town council, Luuka district, claiming not only Aliyinza’s life but also that of Yusuf Biita, Vice Chairman LC II Kirimwa Parish, who served as Aliyinza’s political assistant.
Aliyinza, aged 34, was a vibrant figure in Luuka’s political landscape, having recently contested for the Luuka woman Member of Parliament seat. Her political aspirations were cut short in a collision involving the silver grey Isuzu double cabin she was traveling in and a sugarcane-loaded lorry.
According to initial reports from Micheal Kasadha, the Busoga North spokesperson, Biita tragically passed away at the scene of the accident, while Aliyinza succumbed to her injuries en route to Musana Hospital in Kaliro district. Both drivers involved in the collision fled the scene.
Faruk Kirunda, who had recently returned from Mecca after a pilgrimage, took to social media to share the heartbreaking news of his wife’s untimely death. In a somber post, he expressed profound grief over the loss, describing it as a heavy blow to their young family. He thanked everyone for the overwhelming support and sympathy extended to him during this difficult time.
