Obongi RDC Becomes the First Beneficiary of IRS Exercise

The Obongi Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Hasaka Samuel Mpimbasa, has set an example as a leader by having his house sprayed first during the indoor residual spray exercise that kicked off on Friday in Obongi. A total of 49,101 houses are being sprayed in Obongi district under the indoor residual spray exercise that commenced on Friday morning.

RDC Obongi, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, launched the IRS operation at his residence in Mundo cell, Obongi town council, on December 8, 2023, as a way of assuring the people that IRS chemicals are safe. The Deputy CAO, Lokoroi Charles, and the NRM SG, Tawa Philip, expressed gratitude to the RDC, who also serves as the chairperson of the malaria task force in the district.




The DHO, Dominic Lomerechu, commended the RDC for offering his house for spraying in the presence of the general public.




In an interview on Friday morning with our reporter, Hasaka emphasized that many people have been influenced by false propaganda about the IRS exercise. Therefore, he has come out to show Ugandans that the drugs or chemicals being used during the spray exercise are very safe and have no side effects. The RDC thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for consistently ensuring good health for Ugandans.




He noted that the IRS has created employment opportunities for Obongi by employing about 202 pump sprayers. One of the pump sprayers in Obongi Town council, who preferred anonymity, mentioned that RDC Hasaka Samuel Mpimbasa has alleviated their fears about the spray exercise. She is now confident it is safe, following the example set by Hasaka. She pledged to mobilize her community to leave their doors open for the spray operators to eradicate malaria from Obongi district.

Obongi district recently received mosquito nets to aid in the fight against malaria. The Ministry of Health has deployed a group of five technical staff to work with leaders of Obongi in the distribution of long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets. The team is led by Mr. Semaganda Ezron from the Ministry of Health headquarters.
