The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, and the Assistant RDC (ARDC) have announced that an investigation will be launched into the handling of the one billion shilling grant allocated to the district.
This decision comes after complaints were raised about substandard work on the Belameling-Kali road in Itula Subcounty.
The investigation follows public petitions highlighting the poor quality of work and the failure to produce Bills of Quantities (BOQs), as well as the abandonment of the road construction project.
The district was one of the beneficiaries of the road equipment provided last year, in addition to receiving one billion shillings under the grant for road development.
During the quarterly Roads Committee meeting, chaired by Obongi Woman MP, Hon. Maneno Zumura, members expressed serious concern over the state of the Belameling-Kali road, describing the work as subpar.
In response to these concerns and public complaints, the RDC’s office decided to conduct an impromptu inspection of the road.
After inspecting the site, the RDC expressed disappointment at the poor quality of the work and the abandonment of the project. The office has made it clear that anyone responsible for the mess will face appropriate action.
