Obongi District – The RDC of Obongi District, Mr. Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, took over teaching at Liwa Primary School after discovering that children were left without teachers in their respective classrooms.
School administrators informed the RDC, who was monitoring schools, that five teachers were absent but still receiving salaries.
The administrators stated that they had written to district authorities about the absentee teachers, but no action had been taken by the time of compiling this report. Our attempts to reach the DEO of Obongi District were futile, as the DEO did not respond to our repeated phone calls.
The RDC took on the subjects of English, Social Studies, and Mathematics for P1, P2, P3, and P5, where he discovered that three pregnant girls in P5 had dropped out of school to get married. He also counseled the P7 candidates and encouraged them to avoid sex before marriage.
Mr. Hashaka then wrote to the CAO of Obongi to take action against the absentee teachers. In an interview with our reporter, he urged all teachers to adhere to their professional ethics, avoid absenteeism, and refrain from engaging in activities that distract them from their profession.
He praised the hardworking teachers in Obongi District who adhere to the professional code of conduct and are always punctual in their daily duties.
He emphasized that candidates in classes sitting for their PLE should always be punctual, and the teachers of these candidate classes should be encouraged to double their efforts to ensure students are adequately prepared for their PLE papers.
