Okidi Patrick, Obongi – The Chairperson of Lionga Central Planting and Commercial Nursery Bed in Obongi Town Council, Mr. Loruba Majid Kemis, led a team of residents to arrest staff of the Centre for Research and Sustainable Solutions, whom they alleged embezzled funds for a tree planting project.
The residents placed the suspects on a tukutuku tricycle and took them to the RDC’s office at the Obongi District headquarters. The complainants, who are 51 in number, reported that they were given only 34 hoes and were told to share them, which they rejected.
They also complained that they initially worked with Agrifarm Uganda Ltd, but a few weeks ago, they were forced to work with another contractor called the Centre for Research and Sustainable Solutions (CRSS), whose director is Mr. Turyahikayo Stephen.
The residents stated that district officials instructed them to transfer money to CRSS, which they did immediately. However, they were shocked to find out that CRSS had already embezzled the funds given to them by the OPM under DRDIP.
The residents also complained that CRSS was attempting to implement eight different projects under DRDIP with only one week left before the program’s closure.
The RDC’s office handed over the matter to the OC CID detective, ASP Isiko, for investigation, as it involved allegations of embezzlement of funds by the Centre for Research and Sustainable Solutions (CRSS).
