The Obongi-Sinyanya ferry has been temporarily suspended due to a mechanical issue and low water levels on the Nile River.
Obongi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka confirmed that his office has notified the Ministry of Works about the situation, and repairs are being arranged.
The RDC advised ferry users to utilize alternative routes, such as the Laropi ferry in Moyo district, or boats at the Obongi-Sinyanya landing sites.
He cautioned boat operators against overcharging and overloading passengers and urged all passengers to wear life jackets.
A 40-year-old resident of Obongi Town Council, who wished to remain anonymous, said that the ferry’s suspension has severely impacted business.
He explained that the ferry previously facilitated the transport of a large number of passengers, allowing businesses to operate efficiently. He added that the current situation has left many stranded and unable to conduct business as usual.
