The display of the National Voters Register and special interest group registers in Kisoro District has seen a low turnout on its first day, as preparations for the 2026 general elections continue.
The exercise, which began on April 25, 2025, will run until May 15, 2025, for the general National Voters Register, while the display of registers for special interest groups will end on May 8, 2025.
At several polling stations in Kisoro Municipality, turnout remained low throughout the day. By 3:00 PM, no voters had been attended to at Shaaza Polling Station. At New Park Polling Station, only 25 voters had participated, while over 30 voters were recorded at Mayor’s Garden Polling Station.
Display officers at Shaaza, Mayor’s Garden, and New Park polling stations attributed the low turnout to limited mobilization. They urged the public to come out, verify their voter information, and ensure a smooth and credible election process.
Kisoro District Returning Officer, Mr. Nayebare Daniel, called on the public to cooperate with polling officials to facilitate easy access to necessary information. He emphasized that the exercise is a vital step in ensuring free and fair elections in 2026.
