Alebtong, Uganda – With the NRM Vice Chairperson Northern region race becoming the talk of all the sub-regions in Northern Uganda, and the 2026 general elections drawing nearer, political tensions and maneuvering are rising within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and among top Northern Uganda NRM heavyweights, including influential figures in the Lango, Acholi, and West Nile sub-regions.

A fierce rivalry has emerged between Alebtong’s own Ojede Ziegler Bobson and Government Chief Whip Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, the Ajuri County MP, as they battle for the position of NRM National Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda.

Ojede Ziegler has emphasized that someone holding three different top offices in government should not attempt to contest, describing such leaders as people who do not want young people to replace them in Northern Uganda.

Ojede Ziegler Bobson declared his intention on Monday evening from Lira City to the media, confirming his stand to contest for the position of National Resistance Movement (NRM) party vice chairperson for Northern Uganda.

Bobson Ziegler has officially announced his intention to contest against Denis Hamson Obua, who also comes from Alebtong district.

Hon. Ojede Ziegler Bobson, a teacher by profession, a development practitioner, a researcher, and former executive director of YMYi Uganda, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science from Kampala International University, sponsored by State House under the administration of Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

In his remarks, Ojede said he wants unity and welfare for NRM organs from the national level to the village level, and he wants to discourage the issue of some leaders in the NRM holding three positions.

“For example, you find some people in Lango here holding the post of MP, Government Chief Whip, and again want to be elected NRM Regional Vice Chairperson. But no, this will not happen. Why are you not content with two different offices?” asked Ojede, as he reaffirmed his interest in the position, meaning it might be a tough race ahead for Hamson Obua, who is now Ajuri County MP and Government Chief Whip, according to Ziegler Bobson.

With several strong contenders from Northern Uganda vying for the NRM vice chairperson seat for Northern Uganda, the race is expected to be very close and fiercely contested.

The position was previously held by the late Rt. Hon. Speaker Jacob Oulanyah L’Okori (RIP) before his death. He was also serving as the MP of Omoro County.
