A massive contribution of over 1.49 billion shillings has been made toward the restoration of St. Mary’s Mutolere Parish Church, which is set to celebrate its centenary in 2029. The proposed budget for the restoration is 2 billion shillings.
The launch ceremony was held at St. Paul Mutolere Boys Secondary School, where the Chief Guest, Deputy Speaker of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, donated 100 million shillings. The Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, presided over the service.
In his speech, Tayebwa emphasized the need for collaboration and cooperation between leaders and the public, while also condemning the rising sectarianism and division among leaders in Kisoro District. He urged the people of Kisoro to continue supporting the ruling government, emphasizing that this is the best way to achieve their development objectives.
Former Inspector General of Police, Rt. Gen. Kale Kayihura, who donated 35 million shillings, also delivered a pledge from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for 500 million shillings. Kayihura expressed his gratitude to the Catholic Church for its prayers, which he believes played a crucial role in the ruling government’s rise to power. He pledged to work tirelessly to ensure that the full 2 billion shillings target is raised on time, as a testament to the enduring legacy of Mutolere Deanery.
The Head of Laity at Mutolere Deanery, Asigario Turyagyenda, thanked President Museveni and Speaker Tayebwa for their contributions, urging believers to unite and raise the targeted amount within a short period.
Meanwhile, Bishop Rubaramira acknowledged the support from various people and urged believers to embrace the Holy Spirit, who will guide them in raising the funds.
