Over 170 million shillings was collected during the Bishops’ Walk in the Diocese of Muhabura, primarily to raise funds for the children being supported at Potters Village Crisis Center in Kisoro Municipality.
Dr. Atwiine Diana, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, who was the chief walker, commended the leadership of Potters Village for their continuous support to sick and vulnerable children, which is easing the burden on the government, especially during the current economic crisis.
Dr. Atwine acknowledged the excellent work being done at the facility and pledged government support through the Ministry of Health. She promised to provide various machines for the facility and 10 million shillings, which would be delivered within two weeks.
Steven Nsabiyunva, the Kisoro District Health Officer, noted that Potters Village plays a crucial role that cannot be replicated by Kisoro Hospital. He promised to work with district officials to deploy another worker to the facility to assist with labor, requesting district leaders to support his proposal.
Bishop Godfrey Mbitse, the Bishop of Muhabura Diocese, thanked everyone who supported the cause, which would help in caring for the children. He noted that while the funds were being raised for Potters Village, the children were also contributing by participating in the walk.
Dr. James Nsababuturo (Bufumbira East), Hon. Kamara John Nizeyimana (Bufumbira North), and Hon. Alex Seruganda, the Kisoro District Members of Parliament, supported the cause and urged the public to appreciate and contribute to development efforts. They each contributed two million shillings.
Hon. Eddie Kwizera, the Bukimbiri County Member of Parliament, representing the chief guest, announced that the Kisoro District Members of Parliament committee had agreed to contribute 10 million shillings each to support the roofing of the new cathedral under construction.
Abel Bizimana, the Kisoro District LCV Chairperson, requested the chief guest to approve the facility to become a pediatric hospital and cautioned the public against taking life for granted. He emphasized the importance of cooperation and unity in supporting the children at Potters Village.
Potters Village, a project overseen by the Muhabura Diocese, is providing a loving home and Christian values to vulnerable children in Kisoro district. The staff, employed from the local community, are dedicated to providing long-term support to the children. Potter’s Village also strives to be self-sufficient through agriculture and livestock.
