A total of 63 youth in Oyam district who were trained at Lira University Presidential Industrial Hubs in the first, second, and third lots have come together and formed their SACCO to enable them to continue accessing support from the Office of the President.

These youth were trained on various skills like welding, hairdressing, carpentry, tailoring, among others.

During a meeting organized today at Oyam Bhoma ground together with the team from State House, reports show that some youth in Oyam district who trained there are relaxing and not practicing the skills they acquired despite their colleagues rejoicing and investing in the skills they gained.

Alex Enon, the Senior Commercial Officer for Oyam district, said 30 percent of these youth are not investing the skills they acquired from the Presidential Industrial Hubs, and he is hopeful the SACCO will bring them together for real investments.

Moses Otim, who has trained from the hubs on welding, said startup capital is a big challenge to the youth and is making some relax, especially welders, as welding materials are very expensive to buy.

Edmond Ndyaremwaki, who is the National Coordinator for Presidential Industrial Hubs, said forming a SACCO would be very paramount to help these youth to continue accessing support from the Office of the President when needed because it will bring all of them together.

He added and appealed to them to invest in the skills as the only solution to put them in self-reliance.

The Presidential Industrial Hubs is a President Museveni initiative aimed to address unemployment among youth across the country. There are 19 in number, covering all regions in the country.
