MBALE, Uganda – Equity Bank Uganda has handed over a brand-new bus to Nabumali Boarding Primary School in Mbale District, marking a major boost for one of the Bugisu sub-region’s oldest educational institutions.
The handover ceremony, held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, was filled with joy and celebration as pupils, teachers, and community members gathered to receive the school’s first-ever bus. The event attracted several dignitaries, including District Education Officer Mr. Paddy Khaukha, Mbale Mayor Mr. Moses Kutoi, and Rev. Eridad Milton Shissa, the Diocesan Secretary of Mbale Diocese.
Proceedings began at the Equity Bank Mbale Branch, where the bus was officially flagged off before it made its way to the school. Guests were later entertained with poetry and traditional dances performed by pupils, adding color to the celebration.
The bus was acquired through Equity Bank’s Asset Financing Facility, a program that enables individuals, schools, and businesses to acquire assets such as vehicles and equipment without paying the full cost upfront.
According to Mr. Ronald Sam Nakhasanga, Regional Manager for Eastern Uganda, Nabumali Boarding Primary School contributed 20% of the total cost, while the bank financed 80%, to be repaid over nine school terms, an equivalent of three years.
“This handover demonstrates Equity Bank’s commitment to empowering education and supporting communities to achieve their development goals,” Mr. Nakhasanga said during the event.
The school’s head teacher, Mrs. Beatrice Katami Wachaya, expressed gratitude, saying the bus will not only benefit the school but also serve the wider community.
“This bus is not just for the school but also for the community. It has already started supporting us,” she said. “As educators, we don’t just teach, we strive to make a difference in our communities, and this is one of the ways we are doing so.
Established in 1975 by missionaries, Nabumali Boarding Primary School is jointly owned by the Church of Uganda and the Government of Uganda. It remains the only boarding primary school under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) program in the Bugisu sub-region.
