The number of vehicles and passengers at the Obongi-Sinyanya ferry has doubled due to the festive season. The ferry operations have increased from ten trips to over twenty. As a result, the number of passengers has increased from 1,000 to over 2,400 per day, while the number of vehicles has increased from 150 to over 340 per day.
This information was disclosed to The Ankole Times newspaper by the Resident District Commissioner of Obongi on Saturday evening in a telephone interview. While monitoring the operations of the Adjumani-Sinyanya-Obongi ferry, RDC Obongi Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka thanked the Executive Director of UNRA, Ms. Allen Kagina, for visiting the ferry in April this year and fulfilling most of her pledges aimed at improving the operations of the ferry.
Hashaka also expressed gratitude to the UNRA staff, commanded by the ferry master Captain Opedun and Mzee Talutambude, for serving with diligence even during the difficult times of heavy rains, which increased water levels and caused floods. One positive aspect is that all vehicles and passengers using the Adjumani-Sinyanya-Obongi ferry don’t pay any money for the ferry services.
