Kabale taxi drivers have conducted a peaceful demonstration today, accusing Cross Country Transport Company of not following the rules and regulations for loading and offloading passengers from the park.
The aggrieved drivers told our reporter that Cross Country Transport Company drivers refused to park in the designated taxi parks, prompting them to join them in the bus park. Cross Country Transport Company operates from Kabale to Kigali and Kigali to Kabale for special hiring, but now they say the same cars have resorted to taxi operations, resulting in a lack of passengers.
They added that, through their chairman of the Kabale Drivers’ Association, Saturday Byamugisha, they have written letters to all government officials in Kabale District for help, but nothing has been done to assist them. That’s why they have decided to conduct this peaceful demonstration to show their dissatisfaction.
The chairman of the Kabale Drivers’ Association, Saturday Byamugisha, said that as driver leaders, together with Kabale municipality leaders and traffic officers, they set rules and regulations to guide them in working in harmony. However, to his disappointment, Cross Country Transport Company has refused to abide by these rules and regulations and loads and offloads passengers anywhere, even though designated points/areas for loading and offloading passengers have been established in Kabale town. This creates a problem for those adhering to the rules and regulations, as they end up failing to get passengers.
