Byamukama Libino, Rukiga District – The former Mayor of Kabale Municipality, Dr. Pius Ruhemurana, was laid to rest today in his home in Kashumuruzo cell, Kitanga Parish, Kashambya sub-county, Rukiga District.
Ruhemurana was born on May 5, 1948, and succumbed to hypertension and diabetes at Rugarama Hospital in Kabale Municipality on April 24. He served as mayor of Kabale Municipality from 1996 up to 2016.
During the funeral Mass service held at Kitanga Catholic Church Parish, the Bishop of the Kabale Diocese, Rt. Rev. Callistus Rubaramira, commended the late mayor for establishing the Poor People’s Fund (PPF), aimed at benefiting the disadvantaged in society.
The State Minister for Finance General Duties, Honorable Henry Musasizi Ariganyira, who also serves as the Rubanda East MP, lauded the late mayor for supporting government programs despite being on the ticket of the opposition party. Musasizi further said he has been able to register many achievements both in Parliament and in Rubanda because of the knowledge the late mayor shared with him.
The Kabale Municipality MP, Dr. Honorable Nicholas Thaddaeus Kamara, and the Buhweju County MP, Honorable Mwijukye Francis, praised the late mayor for staying focused on the party’s core values and principles. Mwijukye said that Ruhemurana upheld the truth and never sought money, unlike some in Najanankumbi.
The relatives of the deceased, led by his daughter Joseline Ruhemurana, stated that her father succumbed to hypertension and diabetes. She also commended the Kabale Municipal Council for paying their last tribute to the deceased during the council’s proceedings.
The FDC Katonga Faction, led by the former Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament, Honorable Rolland Mugume Kaginda, and Proscovia Salaamu Musumba, the former Forum for Democratic Change Vice President (Eastern Region), represented Colonel Dr. Kiiza Besigye. They lauded the deceased for his dedication to the party.
It is noted that Dr. Pius Ruhemurana’s wife, Regina Ruhemurana, passed away in 2015
