The interim president of the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party (Katonga faction), Mr. Erias Lukwago, chaired a significant meeting with the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) members. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss and plan the implementation of resolutions from the recent National Executive Committee delegates’ conference held at Katonga Road.
During the meeting, Mr. Lukwago emphasized the importance of unity and focus among NEC members to regain the public’s trust. Several critical issues were addressed, including the mobilization of undecided FDC members, the resolution of disputes within the party, and engagement with founding members, religious leaders, and other stakeholders. The leadership also discussed the roadmap for grassroots leadership elections, with plans to finalize them after further consultations with party members.
Mr. Lukwago mentioned that some resolutions were reached during the meeting, but they are awaiting necessary approvals before making them public. Despite facing challenges, including financial constraints, the leadership remains determined to achieve its objectives.
In parallel, Mr. Patrick Amuriat, the party president of the Najjanankumbi faction, campaigned in Hoima District in preparation for the National Delegates Conference scheduled for next month. He seeks a second term as party leader and called on dissenting members to use democratic means for leadership change within the party.
The FDC’s Electoral Commission announced that all duly-nominated candidates have until October 4 to conduct their campaigns for the upcoming polls. The turmoil within the FDC escalated when an extraordinary Delegates’ Conference passed resolutions to remove several key party members from office, appointing Mr. Lukwago as interim leader for the next six months. The Najjanankumbi team remains determined to hold their NEC meeting next month.
