Residents of Dello village in Liwa Parish, Gimara sub-county, Obongi district, have protested at Obongi district headquarters over the lack of water in Dello, Liwa North, and Gango villages for over four months.

The over one billion shilling water project, funded under the Development Response to Displacement Impacts Project (DRDIP) and commissioned last year, has failed to provide water to the communities.

Residents, led by Dello village LC1 Chairperson Ejope Joseph Peterson, presented a memorandum to Obongi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, stating that the district has neglected them despite repeated reports to the district headquarters.

The residents, who are demanding an investigation into the DRDIP water project, showed the RDC the dirty water they are now drinking and explained that they are forced to fetch water from Yunbe district and Ewafa sub-county, which are six kilometers away.

RDC Hashaka immediately contacted Obongi Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Humphrey Otim Benson and Minister of State for Water Hon. Aisha Sekindi about the matter.

The Obongi district LC5 chairperson could not be reached for comment by press time despite repeated phone calls.
