(Kampala) - Buganda's leadership has reported contributions exceeding UGX 58 million from community members to support the kingdom’s development initiatives, particularly in promoting coffee cultivation.

(Kampala) – Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga announced today that residents from Buddu, Bugerere, and Busiro have collectively raised over UGX 58 million to support the kingdom’s projects. This significant contribution reflects the commitment of Buganda’s subjects to enhancing their livelihoods, particularly through the ongoing Emmwaanyi Terimba campaign aimed at promoting coffee farming.

Mayiga noted that the funds raised demonstrate the community’s dedication to improving their economic situation and supporting initiatives led by the kingdom. He emphasized the importance of the Emmwaanyi Terimba campaign in fostering growth within the coffee sector and acknowledged the positive impact of the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) in this effort.

The Katikkiro expressed gratitude for the support from the community, stating, “This shows how our people have come together to support their kingdom’s development.” He also emphasized the critical role of coffee cultivation in Buganda’s economy and the necessity of sustaining efforts to promote it.

In his remarks, Mayiga addressed some misconceptions surrounding the coffee initiative, particularly concerns related to the regulatory framework. He reassured attendees that the focus remains on improving coffee production and ensuring that all stakeholders benefit from these initiatives.

He further commented on the significance of community engagement in these efforts, saying that without active participation, the intended progress might not be achieved. “If we do not actively support our initiatives, we risk losing the momentum we have built,” he warned.
