Alebtong — The Abia sub-county LC3 Chairman, Mr. Akung James Wapakabulu, has declared his sub-county a no-go zone for criminals locally known as “Owuwuk.” He was addressing members of the press at the sub-county headquarters on Friday, October 4, 2024.
Akung stated that as the chairman of security for the sub-county, according to their resolution laid down during a security meeting held on October 3, 2024, they will arrest anyone involved in criminal activities and prosecute them swiftly under the rule of law.
He emphasized that the “Owuwuk” pose a significant threat to the community, and thus, security and the government must take a keen interest in arresting these criminals and remanding them in a government prison outside the Lango sub-region, so they do not have the opportunity to be bailed out immediately and return to disturb and loot the people.
He noted that the government must not take the “Owuwuk” for granted, as they are organized criminals who even attack beneficiaries of the PDM (Parish Development Model) and steal their money. In another twist of events, he announced that he is working with the security team to conduct foot patrols at night, and anyone arrested without a clear purpose during these patrols will face the law.
Meanwhile, he warned that any “Owuwuk” attempting to cause havoc should consider another sub-county, as Abia will not tolerate such behavior under his leadership. He issued a word of caution to anyone intending to engage in criminal or disruptive activities: prepare to go to jail or face the local community, which is now vigilant in protecting their property and committed to maintaining peace in their homes during the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on October 9, 2024.
