Ngogwe Sub-county in Buikwe District is alive with joy as government officials announce the elevation of Ngogwe Health Centre III to Health Centre IV status, marking a significant milestone for better healthcare service delivery. This decision, after almost a decade of anticipation, has brought relief and excitement to the local leaders and community.
District officials estimate that Ngogwe Health Centre IV is poised to serve approximately 15,000 people in Buikwe South Constituency, encompassing Najja, Ssi, and Ngogwe sub-counties. The elevation to Health Centre IV status is a culmination of persistent efforts, reminders, and lobbying by leaders at various levels, from the district to the constituency and lower administrative units.
Dr. Richard Sserunkuuma Bbosa, the Buikwe District Health Officer, expressed his satisfaction with the decision, stating that the community had been advocating for the upgrade since 2013. The strategic location of Ngogwe Health Centre III necessitated the move to enhance service delivery. Dr. Bbosa highlighted the significance of this achievement, noting that the facility would now receive additional health workers and a more substantial budget to enhance its services.
“This is a big success for the people of Buikwe District and communities that have always sought medical services at Ngogwe Health Centre III. The facility will get more health workers with a bigger budget to boost service delivery,” remarked Dr. Bbosa.
A Health Centre IV is considered a mini-hospital, offering a broader spectrum of healthcare services. Dr. Lulume Bayiga, the area MP, who played a pivotal role in the campaign for the elevation, shared his excitement about the enhanced facility. With Health Centre IV status, Ngogwe Health Centre is set to receive medical doctors, X-ray services, and a range of other healthcare amenities.
James Mbalule, the Ngogwe Sub-county chairperson, confirmed that the government had allocated Shs1 billion for the construction of a theatre and additional facilities that accompany the new Health Centre IV status. The funding is expected to contribute to the expansion and improvement of healthcare services in the region.
