Residents of Kamushoko Bubare Kashari in Mbarara District have expressed their gratitude to Halson Kagure, the Mbarara Referral Hospital Public Relations Officer, for his generosity and commitment to improving education in the community that raised him.

The community has undergone a significant transformation, with enrollment at Komuyaga Primary School rising from 158 to 483 pupils due to the leadership of the school management committee and the efforts of benefactors like Kagure.

But that’s not all. Kagure’s work as the Public Relations Officer for Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital has also been widely appreciated. Community members thanked him for connecting them with relevant health workers whenever they were in need and for enhancing the hospital’s reputation in recent times. “We now have confidence in our hospital because of your efforts and the hospital administration. We always hear you on the radio and see you on TV,” said one community member.

Mr. Livingston Ruramira, the leader of Komuyaga Church of Uganda, praised Kagure’s selflessness and dedication to giving back to his community, noting that “Kagure’s life is a testament to the power of hard work and determination. While others, after being anointed by God to serve His Kingdom, focus on their interests, Kagure remains humble and committed to uplifting his community.”

In a gesture of support, the soft-spoken and reserved Kagure donated numerous boxes of textbooks to Komuyaga Primary School to enhance the pupils’ reading culture and competitiveness. He shared his personal journey of walking miles to school barefoot and emphasized the importance of education in shaping one’s future. He also acknowledged the role of community in child upbringing, saying, “It takes a village to raise a child, and I am grateful to the elders who disciplined us with canes to instill seriousness about education.”

John Bosco Tuhairwe, the head teacher, applauded Kagure’s efforts, stating, “Kagure’s support has been crucial to our school’s revitalization. We appreciate his dedication to education and community development.”

During a fundraising service where he presided as the guest of honor, Kagure urged teachers to undergo refresher training and engage in research to stay updated and competitive with their counterparts in urban areas. He also encouraged parents to support school projects, emphasizing that the collapse of the school affects everyone. The donated textbooks cover various topics including environment, real-life experiences, history, arithmetic, career growth, inspirational stories, and literacy, authored by nationally and internationally recognized intellectuals to meet learners’ needs.

Kagure’s story exemplifies the power of community and the impact one person can have on many lives. His efforts may inspire others to follow in his footsteps, ensuring a brighter future for the children of Kamushoko.
