(Mbarara) – A man in Mbarara district was arrested on Monday, November 11, 2024, after a police sniffer dog tracked him down in connection with a goat theft case.
The incident occurred in Rwebambi village, Kashari, where four goats belonging to Akampa Ayubu were stolen. Police, upon receiving the complaint, deployed a canine unit to the scene. The dog successfully traced blood stains leading to the home of Kizza Alex, a butcher shop employee in Rubindi.
Kizza Alex was subsequently arrested and confessed to the crime. He is currently in police custody.
Livestock theft has been a persistent problem in Uganda, particularly in rural areas. The rising demand for beef has fueled this criminal activity. In 2023, the North Kyoga region recorded the highest number of livestock theft cases, followed by Rwizi and Kampala Metropolitan Police.
