The former Member of Parliament for Obongi constituency in Obongi district, Mr. Kaps Fungaroo, has survived a lynching attempt after being accused of causing confusion in the ongoing National Population and Housing Census. The incident took place on May 10, 2024, at Muleria village in Kali Parish, Itula sub-county, Obongi district. Hassan Kaps Fungaroo got involved in a heated border dispute between Yumbe and Obongi districts, according to one of the authorities who spoke to our reporter.
The residents decided to smash his car and wanted to beat him up, but luckily, the police led by the DPC Obongi SP Graciano Nkurunziza and the UPDF came to the rescue of Mr. Fungaroo, after which he hurriedly disappeared from the scene. The RDC Obongi Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, DISO Elyebu Denis, and the district Chairperson arrived at the chaotic scene and restored order.
The district Chairperson of Yumbe, Mr. Asiku Abdul Mutalib, who arrived at the scene after Fungaroo had fled, promised to confront him for causing confusion between Obongi and Yumbe due to his selfish, negative political reasons. He warned Fungaroo never to set foot in Yumbe district again. The Obongi district Chairperson, Haji Abibu Khemis Buga, also warned Fungaroo for causing confusion in the area.
