Residents of Kyondo cell in Nyamwamba division, Kasese Municipality, were left bewildered on April 19th, 2024, when a man in his late fifties reportedly stripped naked and began feeding on pasture.
Confirming the incident, the Local Council One Chairperson, Mr. Emmanuel Katuramu, identified the individual as Mr. Jackson Kiringi, a resident of the same area.
The shocking occurrence is purportedly linked to magic practices by Ms. Atwooki Night, who recently reported the theft of her cow to the LC One Chairperson. She promised to use magic to have the suspect apprehended.
Mr. Emmanuel Zirijayo, a herdsman at Atwook’s kraal, shared in a separate interview that the suspect spent the entire day at the kraal, disrobed, clutching his clothes, and grazing on pasture.
Meanwhile, Mr. Jafali Kigutiha, the Local Council One Chairperson for Basecamp lower in Kasese Municipality, has called upon the government to establish police posts in pre-urban areas. This, he believes, will aid in curbing the rising instances of criminality, which have driven locals to resort to magic in their efforts to recover stolen property.
While the church and government strongly condemn acts of magic, they advocate for dialogue within the local community to address underlying issues.
The incident serves as a reminder of the complexities faced by communities in rural areas and the need for comprehensive solutions to address social challenges.
