Residents living along the Kunya-Kaziru road in Bukakata subcounty, Masaka district, are calling on President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to deploy the Engineering brigade (UPDF) to address the deteriorating state of the roads. They expressed frustration with the failure of responsible officials to take action.

During a demonstration over the impassable road, traders voiced their concerns, highlighting the significant losses incurred due to poor road conditions despite the government’s revenue generation from Kaziru landing site. Locals lament that their leaders have ignored their pleas regarding the road’s condition.

Jimmy Nkwangu, a resident of Kaziru, recounted that during a recent visit by the newly appointed Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kahinerugaba to Masaka, promises were made to address issues affecting greater Masaka. Nkwangu urges for swift action to aid traders in Lambu and Bukakata areas.

Henry Busulwa, a local businessman, expressed frustration over the repeated allocation of funds for road repairs without visible improvements. He mentioned a raid on the office of Joanita Nalule Kalungi, hoping to amplify their voices for urgent action on the road.

Nalule acknowledged the pressure from traders and locals, mentioning her purchase of materials for temporary road fixes while awaiting district intervention. She urged locals to choose wisely in the upcoming 2026 general elections, emphasizing the importance of electing representatives who will advocate for their needs and ensure project implementation.

She highlighted a disconnect between government funding and project implementation due to some officials’ failure to fulfill their duties and supervise projects effectively.

Efforts to obtain comments from the Local Council (LCV) regarding the matter were unsuccessful at the time of press.
