Palorinya Residents Receive 508 Land Titles from Government

OBONGI, Uganda – Residents of Palorinya sub-county in Obongi District have been awarded 508 land titles, valued at over 3 billion shillings, courtesy of the Ugandan government. The handover ceremony, held on June 30, 2024, at the newly constructed Palorinya sub-county headquarters, marked a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to provide legal land ownership and economic empowerment to its citizens.

The Minister of State for Urban Development, Hon. Obiga Kania, led the event, presenting the land titles to the beneficiaries. Each land title, worth over 6 million shillings, was processed free of charge by the government. The ceremony was attended by several local leaders, including MPs Bhoka Didi George and Zumura Maneno, RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, ARDC Umuhoza Habiba Furaha, District Chairperson Hajji Buga Khemis, CAO Otim Benson Humphrey, Vice Chairperson Okunzi Luis Drale, and Sub-county Chief Odda Anthony.

Hon. Obiga Kania emphasized that the government’s initiative to process these titles aimed to grant the residents legal ownership of their land, thereby enhancing their economic stability. He also cautioned the beneficiaries against selling their land or using it to marry additional wives, stressing the importance of maintaining their newly acquired assets for long-term benefits.

The local MPs, Zumura Maneno and Bhoka George, expressed gratitude to the government for the land titles. They urged the residents to support the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the upcoming elections, highlighting the party’s role in improving their livelihoods.

RDC Obongi Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka also praised President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM government for fulfilling their promise to provide free land titles to the people. District Chairperson Abibu Khemis Buga noted that the land titles would protect the poorer residents from exploitation by wealthier individuals.
