Recent heavy rains have wreaked havoc in the district of Kalungu, causing significant damage to schools and residential areas. Lukaya Town Council and Bukulula’s Ggombolola are among the hardest-hit areas, with widespread flooding affecting Lukaya Educational Center and surrounding homes.

The torrential downpour resulted in severe flooding, submerging classrooms and homes under several feet of water. Furniture, books, and other belongings were swept away, leaving behind a trail of destruction. The situation is dire, with many struggling to salvage what little remains.

Henry Lukusa, a teacher at Lukaya Educational Center, expressed concern over the devastation caused by the flooding. He emphasized the need for urgent assistance from authorities to address the aftermath of the disaster and support affected students and families.

Several schools, including Comprehensive High School, St. Joseph Bajja, St. Joseph Kayanja, and various religious institutions, have been severely affected by the floods. Students and staff are grappling with the loss of property and the disruption of academic activities.

Government officials have been urged to intervene and provide assistance to the affected communities. Gerald Kigundu, the District Chairman, along with local leaders such as Hussein Bazadde Kaweesa of Bukulula Sub-county, have called for immediate action to address the crisis and mitigate further damage.

Kigundu emphasized the urgency of the situation and appealed to the Ministry responsible for disaster management to provide support to those affected. Additionally, they requested assistance from the Office of the Prime Minister to coordinate relief efforts and ensure that affected individuals receive the necessary assistance promptly.
