Student Death Leads to Violent Revenge Attacks in Kumi

In response to the tragic news of their daughter's death, relatives of a teenage pupil mobilized and retaliated against the family of the suspected classmate. They looted several properties, including an unspecified number of livestock such as goats, sheep, and cows. Additionally, they set fire to several temporary and semi-permanent dwellings in a wave of anger and grief.

In Nyero, Kumi district, a tragic incident has sparked retaliatory violence, resulting in the destruction of homes and property following the death of a 14-year-old student.

Jane Titin, a primary five pupil at Auruku Ominai Primary School, reportedly lost her life after being beaten during an argument with a classmate. According to police reports, the altercation occurred while the students were playing in class. Allegedly, the disagreement escalated when one of the minors struck Jane, causing her to collapse. She was swiftly taken to Nyero Health Centre but was declared dead upon arrival, as confirmed by Edison Ebukulem, the East Kyoga regional police spokesman.

The police have taken swift action, registering a murder case under CRB:394/2024 at Kumi Central Police Station. The 13-year-old suspected pupil involved in the altercation has been apprehended and is currently held at CPS Kumi, pending further investigation into the incident.
