Two Dead, One Critically Injured in Nakasongola Accident

(Nakasongola) – A tragic accident on the busy Luweero-Nakasongola highway claimed two lives and left one person critically injured on Wednesday morning. The crash occurred at around 9:00 a.m. in Kakondi Village, Wabinyonyi Sub county, along the Luweero-Gulu highway.

According to Sam Twinemazima, the Savana police regional spokesman, a Toyota commuter taxi traveling from Nakasongola toward Luweero lost control after colliding with a motorcyclist. The vehicle then struck a pedestrian walking by the roadside, causing a fatal crash.

The two individuals who lost their lives were riding on a motorcycle. They have been identified as 62 year old Steven Semwanga, a resident of Sikaye Village in Wabinyonyi Sub-county, and Nakalumba, another resident of the same area. Both died instantly at the scene of the accident.

The injured pedestrian, a 15 year old girl named Rehemah Namwoya, was rushed to Nakasongola Hospital in critical condition, where she is currently receiving medical care.

After the accident, the bodies of the deceased were transported to the Nakasongola Health Hospital mortuary. The vehicles involved in the crash were towed to the Nakasongola Police Station for further investigation.

Sam Twinemazima called on all drivers using the Luweero-Nakasongola highway to be cautious, especially on the narrow road, which has been the scene of numerous accidents over the years. He emphasized the importance of road safety, noting that this highway has claimed many lives due to high speeds and dangerous driving.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, but initial reports suggest that the driver of the Toyota taxi lost control after hitting the motorcycle. Road accidents on the Luweero-Nakasongola highway have been frequent, with many incidents resulting from over speeding and reckless driving.
