The police and army have successfully stopped an attempt by South Sudanese soldiers to abduct a refugee named Ismeal Songa in Yumbe District. This action prevented a potential security threat to the border area.

Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, reported that the South Sudanese soldiers tracked Songa to Mijare Trading Centre in Yumbe, where they attempted to carry out the abduction. However, local security forces were alert and managed to thwart the soldiers’ efforts, rescuing Songa in the process.

Speaking to journalists at the Police headquarters in Naguru on Monday, Enanga explained the details of the incident. The South Sudanese soldiers were acting on a tip-off from Joseph Abate, who claimed that Songa possessed a gun used in crimes and to threaten residents in South Sudan. Based on this information, the soldiers planned to abduct Songa.

Further investigation into the case revealed that Abate had a personal motive. He allegedly blackmailed Songa over accusations of infidelity, claiming that Songa was involved with his wife. Abate wanted Songa to be arrested and taken to South Sudan as part of his scheme.

Enanga’s briefing highlighted the collaboration and quick response of the local security forces, which were crucial in preventing the abduction and ensuring the safety of the refugee.
