The general ward, a significant addition to the local healthcare infrastructure, was financed at a cost of approximately 411 million shillings, courtesy of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Obongi District.

This new healthcare facility consists of three general wards, specifically designed to accommodate men, women, and children. Additionally, it includes various essential rooms and amenities, as detailed in the table below:

Moreover, the facility is equipped with a solar system featuring 16 solar panels, each with a capacity of 150 watts, supported by six 200-amp batteries. It also boasts a standard hybrid inverter, a motorized water pump, a hot water solar system, and two water tanks.

The UNHCR’s Head of Field Office for Obongi and Moyo District, Mr. Mohamed Shekimweri, officially handed over the health facility on behalf of UNHCR. He commended the cooperative efforts of Obongi District’s leadership, which greatly facilitated the successful completion of the project.

One local resident, 32-year-old Sharon Adriria from Adiwa village, Idiwa sub-county, expressed her appreciation for UNHCR’s contribution, emphasizing the positive impact this new general ward will have on the standard of healthcare services in the sub-county and Obongi District as a whole.

In a separate statement, an anonymous local council (LC) member praised the development, highlighting its potential to provide improved healthcare for pregnant mothers and children who may require admission to the facility.

RDC Samuel Mpimbasa Hasaka urged all non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operating in the region to follow UNHCR’s example, setting a high standard for future collaborative projects to ensure value for money.
