GULU – Three individuals were arrested this morning for presenting fake academic documents during the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) recruitment exercise for the West Acholi Sub-region. The event was held at Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu City.

The arrests took place as the UPDF conducted its routine verification of academic credentials submitted by applicants. The recruitment exercise aims to enlist new soldiers from the West Acholi Sub-region. However, the process was disrupted when officials identified discrepancies in the documents provided by the three suspects.

The individuals were promptly taken into custody by military police officers present at the venue. The suspects are now being held for further questioning and investigation.

The UPDF recruitment team emphasized the importance of integrity and honesty in the recruitment process. They warned that any attempts to use fraudulent means to join the military would be met with strict legal action.

Capt. Ahmed Hassan Kato, the officer in charge of the recruitment exercise, reiterated the UPDF’s commitment to maintaining high standards and ensuring that only qualified and deserving candidates are recruited.

“We have zero tolerance for fraud. The integrity of our recruitment process is paramount, and we will take all necessary steps to uphold it,” Capt. Ahmed Hassan Kato stated.
