Obongi, Uganda – Three men, including a local councilor, have been arrested for raping and defiling three pupils of Obongi Primary School in Obongi Town Council.

The arrested individuals are Hon. Matata Amuruk, the councillor for Lionga Ward, Aya Sebi, a shopkeeper, and Kabila, a resident of Obongi Town Council.

Their arrests follow a directive from Obongi RDC Samuel Mpi2mbaza Hashaka to apprehend all defilers in the district.

Two parents, who spoke on condition of anonymity, have thanked the RDC for intervening in the high rates of defilement leading to school dropouts and early marriages.

However, Obongi residents have expressed concerns about alleged discrimination in the handling of defilement suspects by the Obongi Central Police Station (CPS).

They cited the case of Councillor Matata Amuruk, who was arrested simultaneously with Aya Sebi but reportedly received preferential treatment at Obongi CPS, even after attempting to escape.

An LCV councilor from Obongi also accused a police officer at Obongi CPS of mediating defilement cases, citing the example of Councillor Matata Amuruk. The councilor called for Naguru Police Headquarters to handle the matter instead of Obongi CPS.

When contacted by phone, Obongi CID OC ASP Isiko Balisanyuka referred our reporter to the source of the information for clarification.

Obongi DPC SP Nkurunziza Graciano clarified that the suspect will be taken to court soon on the defilement charges.
