The priest from St. Peter’s Catholic Parish in Gisoro, Rev. Fr. Brian Monday, has applauded the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) for being an outstanding service provider in Kisoro and Uganda as a whole. This remark was made on Saturday during the NWSC Kisoro Area End-of-Year party, held at the NWSC offices along the Kisoro-Bunagana Road in Kisoro Municipality.
Rev. Fr. Monday commended NWSC for its exceptional service delivery, highlighting its role in collecting and transporting wastewater from households, institutions, and industries to the treatment plant at Kamonyi. He also praised the company for treating wastewater to remove pollutants and contaminants before discharging it into the environment, and for effectively managing the sludge generated from the wastewater treatment plants. He further acknowledged NWSC’s efforts in potable water supply, water treatment, and distribution.
Rev. Fr. Monday stated, “I want to appreciate NWSC for being outstanding in service delivery compared to other companies in Uganda. For the years I have spent in Kisoro, water has never been limited; it is always in plenty. The manager of NWSC, Mr. Ateker Odeke, has really done his part.”
He urged the community to collaborate with NWSC to gain access to treated sewage as a fertilizer, which can help improve crop yields. “I wonder how people value manure from goats, sheep, and other domestic animals, but neglect the manure from sewage treatment plants. This can produce biosolids, a nutrient-rich fertilizer that can improve soil fertility and reduce the need for synthetic fertilizers,” he noted.
Rev. Fr. Monday also called on the community to be extra cautious during the festive season, particularly in delivering services.
Meanwhile, the Manager of NWSC Kisoro Area, Engineer Charles Ateker Odeke, applauded his fellow workers for their consistency in delivering services, particularly in water treatment and sludge management. He said, “I want to thank all my fellow staff members, support staff, and interns for the good work in 2024 towards service delivery.
I know, as human beings, we cannot be perfect 100%, but with the help of God, we have tried to overcome all the challenges and provide water to our communities. It’s also serving God.”
The End-of-Year party for NWSC began with a corporate mass and continued with a campfire. The event was attended by Assistant Resident District Commissioner Nizeyimana John, Kisoro District Police Commander Superintendent of Police Niwamanya Ben, Rev. Fr. Brian Monday, the manager of NWSC Kisoro Area Engineer Charles Ateker Odeke, along with all the staff, support staff, and internship students.
