Ritah Aliguma, former Uspa vice president and the CEO of the sports-oriented Aliguma Foundation, is currently participating in a month-long mentorship camp in the United States. She is one of 16 international women chosen for the Global Sports Mentoring Program (GSMP), held in Washington DC, which recognizes their contributions as entrepreneurs and sports journalists on a global scale.
Apart from her leadership role at the Aliguma Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on empowering women, girls, and children through sports and education, Aliguma’s accomplishments include organizing the visit of Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin to Uganda.
The GSMP is a collaboration between the US Department of State and espnW, aiming to utilize the influence of sports and mentorship to connect women from various parts of the world with leaders in the American sports industry.
Currently, Aliguma is being mentored by Taryn Hutt, the vice president of Club Marketing at the National Football League (NFL), and Megan Bell, the vice president of Business Intelligence and Ticketing at the Los Angeles Chargers.
In an interview with The Observer, Aliguma mentioned that she has already gained valuable insights into making adequate preparations and establishing organizational structures. She has found the team-building exercises both stimulating and demanding, and she believes that the practices she’s learning in the US can be applied to improve their initiatives back in Uganda, especially in the realm of team-building and bonding exercises.
