Mr. Bazaragye Theodore, the parish chief of Kagunga Parish in Bufundi Sub-county, Rubanda West Constituency, has returned the 3.5 million shillings he had collected from Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries following intervention by the district’s Acting RDC, Eric Ssewandigi.
According to the RDC’s report, Mr. Bazaragye had collected 600,000 shillings from Katwiiga Edward, 300,000 shillings from Akampurira Prossy, 1 million shillings from Turyamwijuka, and 100,000 shillings from Ndomugyenyi, among others.
Speaking to our reporter on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, after the recovery exercise, Rubanda District Acting RDC Eric Ssewandigi said he immediately arrested the suspect upon receiving public complaints.
Ssewandigi added that the next course of action is to verify the PDM beneficiary list in the parish. He has also informed the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to take appropriate action against the accused.
Ssewandigi vowed to crack down on corruption in all remaining sub-counties, citing the recent actions taken in Hamuhambo Town Council in Rubanda East, where three officials—Ali Kirarira, Bridget Musimenta, and Asiimwe Bright—were arrested for corruption and misappropriation of government funds.
This action followed concerns raised by whistleblowers from Kibuzigye-Hamuhambo PDM Sacco Limited regarding the deletion of names from the PDM beneficiary list and the addition of new names not belonging to their parish or Sacco.
Authorities recovered 11 million shillings and ensured it was distributed to the rightful beneficiaries.
Ssewandigi urged the public to report cases of corruption and embezzlement to his office.
