The Rukiga District Council has approved a supplementary budget of UGX 33,809,288 for the financial year 2024/2025. The motion for budget approval was presented to the council by Hon. Niwandinda Samuel, Secretary for Finance, Planning, and Administration, on September 25, 2024. The budget received unanimous approval from the council, presided over by District Speaker Oscar Akampurira.
Niwandinda Samuel, who also serves as the District Vice Chairperson, provided a breakdown of the funds: UGX 33,809,288 from the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development for the Extension Development Grant during the implementation of the 2024/2025 budget, which includes:
- Production and Marketing Grant: UGX 15,308,057
- Agriculture and Development: UGX 18,501,231
During the same council session, Rukiga District LCV Chairperson Robert Mbabazi Kakwerere expressed concern over the rising cases of early retirement among civil servants, which may hinder development.
Rukiga District RDC Zadoki Kamusiime raised concerns about moneylenders in the district who are illegally arresting individuals without consent. He stated that such actions constitute terrorism, illegal arrests, and kidnapping in Rukiga. Kamusiime emphasized the importance of addressing these challenges through proper legal channels before taking any action.
