The Rukiga District Woman MP, Honorable Kamusiime Caroline Muhwezi, has intervened to save lives and prevent accidents on the Hamuhonga-Kitojo-Burime-Nyakagabaga Footbridge, located 3 kilometers from Rwamucucu Sub-County.

Some of the locals and boda-boda riders from Rwamucucu Sub-County, as well as those from outside Rukiga, stated that crossing the deadly swamp with old timbers during rainy seasons was so risky that some could drown. However, they were often rescued by others.

Tumuhamye Ahehurariano (a matooke seller), Niwamanya Grace (an expectant mother), Ainembabazi Shallon, Byaruhanga Bosco, and Anable Amanyabyona (boda-boda riders) mentioned losing their phones through the gaps between the timbers, which would fall into the water. Additionally, crossing for expectant mothers to Mparo Health Center IV and school-going children has been challenging.

They commended Honorable Kamusiime Caroline Muhwezi for timely repairing the old and risky bridge.

Taremwa Wilson, the Missioner at Rwempisii Church of Uganda under Kihanga Archdeaconry, expressed concern about the situation during the rainy season. He added that sometimes, Christians failed to attend church services due to fear of crossing the old bridge.

Naturinda Amoni, commonly known as Rutare LC2 Kitojo Parish, Rwamucucu Sub-County, commended the legislature for supporting the sub-county in repairing the bridge.

Eddie Mugisha, the Rwamucucu Sub-County LC3 Chairman, stated that the sub-county had failed to cover the costs of repairing the bridge, which connects Rukiga and Ntungamo District.

Honorable Kamusiime Caroline Muhwezi emphasized the urgent need for intervention, stating that the footbridge has been crucial for school-going children, expectant mothers, businessmen, and other people outside Rukiga.
