Management at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital has reported a significant increase in the number of attendants accompanying patients, which is straining both safety measures and available resources.
Authorities express concerns over the potential consequences if the situation is not addressed promptly. They fear an increased risk of infections among attendants, which could subsequently lead to re-infection among patients.
Benzy Omoya, serving as the principal hospital administrator, highlighted the challenges stemming from the surge in attendants. He noted that the hospital’s wards were originally designed to accommodate a limited number of individuals.
Omoya emphasized that the hospital currently houses over 320 admitted patients, with certain wards experiencing more strain than others. Among the most affected wards are those dedicated to maternity, children, and general medical care.
The unexpected rise in attendant numbers has resulted in the improper utilization of hospital facilities, exacerbating the strain on resources and potentially compromising patient care.
