Amudat, Karamoja: Joint security Forces in Amudat District, Karamoja region, on Tuesday experienced a significant seizure by recovering a total of 751 live ammunition, each with the potential to cause harm.

The recovery of the live ammunition in Aukukunyo Village, Amudat Parish, Amudat Town Council, Amudat District, indicates that the demand for trading in firearms remains high in Karamoja.

Mr. Micheal Longole, the Karamoja regional police spokesperson, said the recovery of the live ammunition was after a prison officer showed the abandoned white sack hidden in the bush.

Mr. Longole said one of the prison warders by the name of Silver Omongo of Amudat prisons had gone to fetch firewood for his home use from the nearby bush within the above village. But as he was collecting firewood, he saw an abandoned white sack inside the bush and immediately reported it.

“Our joint forces visited the scene, cordoned off the area, and retrieved a white sack containing 751 live ammunition,” he said.

Mr. Longole said they have opened a general inquiry file on the matter and appeal to any member of the public who may have some relevant information concerning the recovered ammunition to get in touch with the detectives in Amudat District.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and report to security forces any suspicious items in their localities or communities.

Meanwhile, the general situation in the region remains calm as the joint security continues to recover guns from the armed cattle rustlers in the region.

Brig Gen Felix Busizoori, the deputy 3rd division commander, said the community in Karamoja has voluntarily surrendered guns, which he said will be a step towards achieving lasting peace in Karamoja.

He kept on reminding Karimojong parents to embrace education by sending their children to school so that Karamoja can develop similarly to other regions of the country.
