Bobi Wine has strongly criticized the treatment of journalists by government officials at Entebbe Airport. He condemns the actions in the harshest terms. Today, journalists from various media outlets were subjected to violence, including beatings and pepper spray. Additionally, their equipment was confiscated, and many were arrested and taken to Entebbe Police. These journalists were targeted for covering recent abductions, violent arrests, and Bobi Wine’s own arrest at the airport.
Bobi Wine reiterated his stance that in a regime considered criminal by some, everyone becomes a victim. He called for collective action to address the current situation and work toward the betterment of the nation.
As of now, Bobi Wine’s residence remains surrounded by both police and military personnel. They have blocked many people from entering to visit him, and earlier, they used tear gas and live bullets to disperse crowds. Bobi Wine considers himself effectively under house arrest and characterizes the current regime as being in a state of panic.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) has also spoken out about the incident. They are joining with other concerned Ugandans in calling for the release of the arrested journalists and comrades. These individuals were detained by security operatives while performing their professional duty, covering events surrounding President Kyagulanyi Ssentamu’s return to the country. Several of them had their working equipment confiscated during the process.
