The Uganda Police Force has officially announced the commencement of a recruitment drive for 2,500 Probation Police Constables (PPCs), with a particular emphasis on encouraging female candidates to apply.
In an advertisement published in New Vision on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, the Police outlined the eligibility criteria for PPC applicants. Candidates must be aged between 18-23 years and possess a Uganda Certificate of Education or its equivalent with at least four credits, including English, or at least a pass in mathematics.
All applicants must be Ugandan citizens with a valid national identity card, have no criminal record, and be prepared to undergo 12 months of Police basic training. Additionally, candidates should be physically and medically fit, willing to work long hours and under challenging conditions, possess good communication skills, and not have served as former or current officers in any other forces.
The advertisement warned against impersonation or submission of forged documents, emphasizing that such actions would lead to arrest and prosecution. Any concealment or provision of false information by applicants would result in disqualification.
Recruitment into the Uganda Police Force will occur following the completion of the 12 months Police basic training, according to the notice.
The last recruitment of PPCs took place in June 2022, during which over 1,000 PPCs, including drivers, were recruited. Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga stated that the recruitment drive aims to enhance the Police’s capacity to maintain law and order and improve effectiveness in addressing the increasing crime rate in the country.
In November 2021, Inspector General of Police Martins Okoth Ochola reported that the total Police Force strength exceeds 52,000, with a population ratio of 1:832, compared to 1:893 in 2020, against a population of approximately 45 million.
