Major General Henry Masiko, from the Joint Staff – Political Commissariat, has emphasized the significance of ideological consciousness within the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF). He described UPDF as a military institution with clear ideological principles.

Today, Maj Gen Masiko presided over the graduation ceremony of 195 Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) who successfully completed a three-month Basic Cadre Development Course at the Oliver Reginald Tambo Leadership School in Kaweweta, Nakaseke District.

During the ceremony, he reiterated that UPDF stands as a force dedicated to the people, distinguishing it from other military entities. He emphasized that the core doctrine of UPDF revolves around safeguarding and defending the people and their belongings.

Maj Gen Masiko expressed his gratitude to the Commandant of the Oliver Reginald Tambo Leadership School and the entire administration for their commitment to providing essential ideological education crucial for the sustenance of UPDF.

Colonel Justus Rukundo, the Commandant of the Oliver Reginald Tambo Leadership School, advised the newly graduated NCOs to always strive to be part of the solution rather than contributing to problems. He encouraged them to continue seeking knowledge and applying the principles they have learned.

The Basic Cadre Development Course, attended by 31 females and 164 males, aimed to mold the trainees into politically aware and ideologically grounded individuals.

The graduation ceremony was attended by both senior and junior officers, marking an important milestone in the professional development of the NCOs.
