A group of 141 former Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) combatants returned to Gulu District, being received at the SOS Community Centre, Pece Pawel Central.

The State Minister for Northern Uganda, Hon. Grace Freedom Kwiyucwiny, praised the ex-combatants for choosing to abandon rebellion and return home. She expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni and the government leaders for facilitating their return, emphasizing that the government aims to provide them with equal opportunities as other citizens.

Hon. Kwiyucwiny informed the returnees about the government’s amnesty program but cautioned against engaging in illegal activities that could lead to legal consequences.

Brig Gen John Musoke, representing the 4 Infantry Division Commander, thanked those involved in facilitating the return and assured the ex-combatants of safety. He urged parents to guide their children and called on leaders to educate citizens for a better Uganda.

Archbishop John Baptist Odama of Gulu Archdiocese appealed to the community to forgive the ex-LRA combatants, emphasizing that they are fellow community members and encouraging everyone to foster peace and harmony.

Doctor Ocaya, speaking on behalf of the returnees, expressed gratitude to the Ugandan government and UPDF leadership. He sought forgiveness, pledging to live in peace with the community.

APRU Pax, a Gulu-based NGO, promised to support the returnees with food, medical care, and other necessities.
