The Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, praised Brigadier General Stephen Kiggundu, the late Deputy Commander of UPDF – Air Force, for his dedicated and passionate service to Uganda. General Muhoozi described Brig Gen Kiggundu as a professional officer who played a crucial role in restoring and maintaining peace and security in the country.
The eulogy for Brig Gen Kiggundu was delivered by Major General Leopold Kyanda during the burial ceremony held on April 4th, 2024, at his ancestral home in Kijambura cell, Nyangahya division, Kikwanana ward in Masindi District. Brig Gen Kiggundu passed away on March 31st, 2024, at his official residence in Entebbe.
Major General Kyanda expressed the sadness of the UPDF over the loss of such a senior and professional officer. He emphasized that Brig Gen Kiggundu’s contributions were greatly valued and that his memory would be cherished by all who knew him.
Brig Gen Kiggundu began his military service on July 27, 1999, and was known as an excellent and dedicated pilot. He was commissioned to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant on May 29, 2002, and served in various capacities until his promotion to the rank of Brig Gen in 2022, a position he held until his passing.
Brigadier General David Gonyi, representing the Commander of Air Force, assured that the army, along with the family of Brig Gen Kiggundu, would not forget this tragic loss. He emphasized that Brig Gen Kiggundu’s memory would endure in the hearts and minds of all those he influenced.
Honorable Dr. Asiimwe Florence, the Masindi District Woman MP, extended her condolences to the family, praising Brig Gen Kiggundu as a hardworking individual who lived a patriotic life.
During the ceremony, Brig Gen Kiggundu was honored with an 11-gun salute, symbolizing the respect and recognition of his service.
The funeral was attended by Generals, Senior Officers of the UPDF, representatives from the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, clergy, politicians, and other dignitaries, all coming together to pay their respects to Brig Gen Kiggundu.
